vampire origins

Vampires were actually based on a true person, Vlad Draculea. Dracul means demon in Romania and indeed he was one. The only thing he really loved was his wife Elisabeta and this love for her was what led him to become the first vampire known as Dracula.
Now for a little background on a real live vampire.
In 1431 Vlad Draculea was born to Princess Onejna and Vlad Dracul. He was the second son but still bore the name Vlad. His birthplace was Sighioara, Transylvania, probably in a military fortress.

When Vlad was five he was initiated into the Order of the Dragon following in his fathers footsteps. But then tragedy struck. Young Vlad and his younger brother were given to the Ottoman Sultan by their own father. He knew that as long as the Sultan had his sons they would not attack his empire.
Thus the beginnings of Vlad The Impaler. Over and over he was tortured and he became quite familiar with pain and death. As he aged and became the ruler of his fathers empire he brought with him fear.
It was said that he would spread eagle villagers and impale them on wooden stakes. The stake was pushed through a body cavity slowly pushing them down upon the stake. He didn't want their deaths to be quick. He wanted them to suffer a slow agonizing death
Whole villages were impaled and lining the roadways thwarting attacks from enemies. Their fear was so great after seeing such a sight they would turn back knowing that they could be next.
Vlad had no conscience. He loved to instill fear but most of his strict measures were to make the economy of his country more stable.
Rumor has it that he killed over 80,000 people, by impaling, roasting, boiling them alive, and other methods. He was said to have killed 600 merchants just to steal their goods.
In 1462 Vlad leaves his beloved wife Elisabeta at the castle to go fight the Turks. He gives his praises to God but then has a premonition of his wife flinging herself from a castle window. When he reached the castle and saw her lifeless corpse. Inside the castle he found an arrow with a letter attached falsely stating his death.
He renounced God and plunged his sword into a crucifix mounted on the wall and a pool of blood
began to form. Soon the blood filled the entire chapel and Vlad swearing to out live God drank the blood from the stone at the crucifix.
Four hundred years later Vlad Draculea still roamed Transylvania. And in 2008 is he still around?
Yes he his deadly alive and doing quite well. The irony of the situation is you kill him by his favorite method, a sharp wooden stake.
Vlad Draculea, the Impaler, the Vampire, an interesting story
